Louis R. Barfield, MD, earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his residency in general surgery at Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans and his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at LSU Health Schumpert Campus in Shreveport, La. In addition, he also completed a laparoscopic colon and rectal surgery preceptorship with Colon and Rectal specialists in Richmond, Va. He is Board Certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery, but solely practices colon and rectal surgery. Additionally, Dr. Barfield is an associate professor of surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.
